Sigma Unveils the First APS-C Size Mirrorless Dedicated Zoom Lens for Fujifilm X Mount
Sigma has introduced the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens for Fujifilm X Mount mirrorless cameras, promising outstanding performance, high quality, and compactness. Sigma’s existing 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN lenses for Sony E-mount and L-mount camera systems are similar to this lens.
The 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN | Contemporary joins the three fast-aperture prime lenses, the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, 30mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, and 56mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, that were unveiled earlier this year for the FUJIFILM X Mount platform.
The 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens from Sigma is made up of 13 elements organized into 10 groups, including one SLD element and three aspherical lenses. It has an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/22 with a minimum focusing distance of 4.8 inches at the wide end and 11.9 inches at the telephoto end, with a maximum magnification of 1:2.8.
The lens has a 35mm full-frame equivalent zoom range of 27mm to 75mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout. Sigma emphasizes the lens’s size: it measures 2.4 inches in diameter by three inches in length and weighs 10.1 ounces (285 grams). According to the manufacturer, it is incredibly tiny and lightweight, which maximizes portability and corresponds to the lower body size of Fujifilm APS-C cameras.

These measurements allow Sigma to claim that it is the smallest and lightest lens in its class (defined as an autofocus compatible, f/2.8 constant aperture zoom lens for APS-C cameras). The front filter is 55mm in diameter. The lens, according to Sigma, has been specifically tuned for Fujifilm X-mount camera systems, featuring support for Continuous AF and in-camera aberration correction. The lens is additionally weather-sealed at the mount for improved weather resistance, though Sigma does not call it that.
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN lens for Fujifilm X-mount camera systems will be available for $549 in December 2022.
