Lomography Introduces the DigitaLIZA LAB Tool to Convert and Finetune Film Scans
Lomography has introduced the DigitaLIZA Lab, a web-based application that allows film photographers to quickly convert and fine-tune film scans. DigitaLIZA Lab’s user interface is quite simple. Photographers can upload positive or negative film scans, convert them, make minor modifications, and then download them, making film scans easier to handle and share.
“This free tool works with any device and allows you to convert all types of film including color negative, black and white, LomoChrome, and slide film in just a few short steps,” says the company.
After uploading a film scan in any format, photographers reverse a negative (if necessary) and fine-tune the upload by altering the black-and-white point. The DigitaLIZA Lab tool for each allows you to change how forcefully it pushes the edit, giving you some influence over how the finished shot looks. The DigitaLIZA platform also includes a pure desaturation button for black-and-white images, removing any color tint in some films and delivering a grayscale image.
Once a photo has been edited to the desired look, photographers click the download button to save the converted file. While Lomography does not specify a file size restriction for the processor, and this isn’t a replacement for a desktop workflow, it is a super-easy and quick way to convert film scans for sharing online, but the quality is likely good enough for printing as well.
One advantage of the platform is that it remembers settings during a session. While there is no batch upload feature, photographers can swiftly handle batches of scans using the same settings. However, photographers must remember to reset the camera to its default settings between operations if they want to process different types of film.
While anybody can use the tool with any film scans in their collection, DigitaLIZA Lab is meant to work with film scanners such as the DigitaLIZA+ and DigitaLIZA Max products sold by Lomography. Lomography’s website offers a comprehensive selection of digital scanning tools.
DigitaLIZA Lab is available for free download from Lomography’s dedicated website.
