The DJI RS 3 Mini Gimbal Offers Pro Functions in a Compact Package
The DJI RS 3 Mini is an extension of the RS 3 series of stabilizers that weighs 1.7 pounds but can support up to 4.4 pounds of camera and lens weight. DJI claims that the all-in-one design of the RS 3 Mini makes it both portable and compact. The RS 3 Mini is around 50% lighter than the RS 3 Pro and 40% lighter than the RS 3 at about 795 grams (1.7 lbs) when shooting vertically. According to DJI, this makes the device considerably easier to carry and enables amazing results to be obtained with just one hand.
It can use a variety of mainstream mirrorless lens and camera combinations thanks to its weight-carrying capacity of up to 4.4 pounds, including the Sony Alpha 7S III and a 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens, the Canon EOS R5, and the RF24-70mm f/2.8 STM lens, or the Fujifilm X-H2S and the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lens.
The little gimbal delivers excellent performance in several movement scenarios, including when the operator is running or when it is held at a low angle, using DJI’s third-generation stabilization technology, also used in the RS 3 Pro.
“When users are shooting around human subjects, the RS 3 Mini achieves smooth camera movements effortlessly. Users don’t need to pay too much attention to footwork and pace, as the RS 3 Mini can follow people steadily and switch between high and low angles for a more diverse range of shots,” the company claims. “Dynamic 360-degree-rotation imaging delivers a strong visual impact and eye-catching shots.”
Photographers may capture vertical video using the RS 3 Mini’s new dual-layered quick-release plate attached to the vertical arm without any additional equipment. Additionally, unlike conventional vertical shooting modes, this format does not restrict the gimbal’s rotation angle. A redesigned curved placement guide on the upper plate of the RS 3 Mini prevents the camera from twisting or slipping out of place.
The DJI Wireless Bluetooth Shutter feature on the gimbal works with the most popular mirrorless cameras. Once the RS 3 Mini and a camera have been connected, it is immediately ready for usage. Users may manage the video recording, and photo capture features directly from the record button on the gimbal. Additionally, users can directly control the optical or digital zoom of the lens when using a Sony camera and a suitable digital lens via the front dial.
A 1.4-inch full-color touchscreen is used to control the gimbal. The front dial can be used for focusing, and the M-mode button can switch between the three custom modes. The RS 3 Mini’s integrated battery handle can be fully charged in as little as 2.5 hours and offers up to 10 hours of operation. The Ronin app connects to the RS 3 Mini as predicted, enabling time-lapse, track recording, and panorama modes.
