SANDMARC Introduces Anamorphic Lens Adapter for iPhones
The San Diego-based company SANDMARC released a new 1.33x Anamorphic Lens for iPhones, and the sample footage looks promising.
The Sandmarc anamorphic lens for iPhones comes with a multi-element design, multi-coating, and anti-reflective glass. It uses an aluminum body and can be attached to most recent iPhone models via a dedicated case or a lens clip.
The company says the lens has been designed to create the same kind of image flare you see in movies and, like other anamorphic lenses, captures more horizontal information by squeezing the image.
This 1.33x adapter squeezes the 16:9 image of the iPhone. Then by “stretching out” the images in post, it gives you a cinemascope 2.4:1 wide aspect ratio. Of course, it also gives you the typical anamorphic oval bokeh.
“This method is very popular among cinema cameras used by movie makers such as JJ Abrams and Stephen Soderbergh,” SANDMARC says.
“One of Anamorphic’s unique features is its ability to give you a cinematic look to your videos,” SANDMARC says. “When the lens is subjected to vivid light, either through car headlights, street lights or any hard light during night shoots, it creates a lens flare similar to what you see in movies.”
The Anamorphic Lens comes with a dedicated case for your iPhone along with a clip-on mount to attach it. It is compatible with iPhone 7/7Plus and later including the latest iPhone X/XS/XR/XS Max and it is already available on the SANDMARC website for $159.99.
