AI Tools and Wireless Tethering for Fujifilm are Added in Capture One Update
Capture One announced the 16.2 “spring” update, including new features and AI-powered tools to speed up customers’ workflows. The new update will offer a slew of enhancements, expansions of current capabilities, and new features designed to cut down on time spent using the application. These include a new automatic dust removal tool (beta) that can automatically identify sensor spots, wireless tethering for Fujifilm cameras with more to come, automated face-focus checking and stacking during the Cull and Importing steps to identify the sharpest images, new custom shortcuts for easy style applications, and iPad functionality for Capture One Live.
Furthermore, the update includes several quality-of-life improvements and overall performance boosts, such as faster preview generation, improved consistency with Smart Adjustments, and integration with Frame.io, which allows users to sync images between the platform and application without additional steps.
Auto-Dust Removal
Capture One Pro will now include the ability to automatically eliminate dust spots from photos, saving users a significant amount of time when cleaning up their shots. “The old Spot Removal tool has been reworked to focus on Dust Removal with an AI-driven automatic removal option. The tool will automatically find up to 200 dust spots and remove them instantly,” the company says. Users can use the tool on single photographs and in batches using the new public beta, with a final version due to be published soon at no additional cost. The corporation has even urged consumers using the new beta tool to provide input so that the final released version performs as well as feasible.
Face Focus
According to Capture One Pro’s Import and Cull viewers, the new Face Focus tool will rapidly highlight face clarity and expression(s). The new technology will recognize a person’s face and give users an instant close-up of the subject, allowing them to choose the sharpest shots from the start of the photoshoot. “This allows you to quickly select your sharpest images from the start without manually zooming in on each photo.”
When the big viewer is activated, the new Face Focus tool appears in the top menu, providing users with five zoom level options: 50%, 100%, 200%, Limit to Eye, and Limit to Face. According to the business, the latter two “dynamic options” will ensure that the full eye or face is within the closeup frame, even if the portions are larger than the file’s overall resolution.
Custom Shortcuts
The new Custom Shortcuts will make it easier for users to apply Styles and share photos with other programs. Users can designate shortcuts to individual Styles and Presets via the Shortcut Manager to rapidly apply them to their photographs. Users can construct shortcuts to directly transmit images to other applications via the “Edit With…” menu option for even more control and workflow simplification. Additionally, users can access the Custom Shortcuts portion of the Shortcut Manager by right-clicking a Style or Preset.
Fujifilm Wireless Tethering
Capture One Pro will feature wireless tethering for select Fujifilm cameras, promising to introduce more cameras and brands in the future, giving creatives more freedom and flexibility when working on set with their team. The new feature will allow users to swiftly evaluate, modify, and develop final looks with their team without dealing with cables dangling around the shoot. Wireless tethering functionality for the X-T5, X-H2, and X-H2s will be added in the latest version of Capture One.
Tethering works wirelessly and through network cables using the Fujifilm FT-HX grip with a compatible camera. The company’s website includes a setup tutorial for each compatible camera/brand and a complete list of supported camera models and wireless availability.
iPad Capture One Live
Capture One Pro now supports Capture One Live on the iPad app, giving creators more flexibility when working with teams. Creators who need to share their work with clients or teams, even whether they are on the go or location, may now use this capability to keep them involved in a production.
Users can effortlessly share photographs with Capture One Live on iPad without exporting and submitting the images to a different platform. This will enable instant feedback in the app regardless of where the photographer or clients are. According to the company, this change will enable contributing comments and collaborating on a shoot faster and easier than ever.
Smart Adjustments provide more consistency
Users will see a significant improvement in consistency across photographs of people with Smart Adjustments updates, allowing them to complete most of their adjustments in seconds. Smart Adjustments, as opposed to copying and applying, employs AI to ensure users achieve a comparable look across photographs captured under diverse lighting situations by automatically altering Exposure and White Balance particular to each photo. These have been optimized for portraiture, fashion, weddings, and other photographs with major attention on the face.
More rapid preview generation
According to the company, the latest version of Capture One Pro also provides faster preview generation, with significant performance improvements for large previews (above 3000px) for RAWs and all size previews for DNGs (RAW files: up to 27% faster and DNG files: up to 44% faster depending on preview size and file format). The improved preview generation will also improve tethered shooting and cut the time from trigger to sharp rendering by up to 19%.
Framework.io integration
Finally, as announced in April, Capture One Pro integrates with Frame.io, allowing users to sync their images between the Frame.io platform and the application without exporting them. Users can immediately import and publish photographs to and from Frame.io using the Capture One Pro desktop client.
The Capture One Pro Spring update is available now for all users on perpetual or subscription licenses. The full list of updates with additional details and video demos can be found on Capture One’s Website.
