Panasonic LUMIX GH6 Firmware Version 2.3 Announced
Panasonic has officially announced an imminent firmware upgrade for the Panasonic LUMIX GH6 version 2.3, which will bring external 12-bit RAW video recording capabilities to Blackmagic Design video recorders, as well as compatibility for 4K 120p/100p HDMI output.
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6 was introduced in February 2022 as the renowned GH5’s replacement. This capable Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera can capture footage at up to 300 frames per second in FHD 1920 x 1080 quality and 5.7K60P internally in Apple ProRes 422.
A few months after its debut, Panasonic issued firmware update version 2.0 that gave Atomos Ninja V/V+ external monitor recorders access to external ProRes RAW capabilities and expanded internal ProRes 422/422 HQ recording capabilities. Direct SSD recording over USB was implemented more recently, in September 2022, with firmware upgrade version 2.2.
After a ten-month hiatus, Panasonic released firmware update version 2.3 for the LUMIX GH6, adding support for 4K 120p/100p via the HDMI output and BRAW external recording capabilities.
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6’s new firmware update version 2.3 makes it an even more adaptable small-sensor mirrorless camera. First, Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12G HDR monitor/recorders now support 12-bit RAW video recording outside, thanks to the latest firmware. Not all recording resolutions, though, are accessible. You can only record BRAW video at the following resolutions: 5.7K, C4K, Anamorphic (4:3) 5.8K, and Anamorphic (4:3) 4.4K.
Panasonic advises setting the codec quality of your BMD Video Assist 12G HDR to a constant bitrate of 5:1 or below when recording to an SSD while your camera’s recording quality is set to 5.7K at 60/50P or C4K at 120P/100P. Set your constant bitrate at 8:1 or less if recording to an SD card.
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6’s firmware update version 2.3 also supports C4K and 4K 120P/100P through HDMI.
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6 firmware update version 2.3 will be available on July 10th.
