Iris Millot: The Sun Comes Out at the Fork in the Road
Iris Millot’s exhibition, “The Sun Comes Out at the Fork in the Road,” will be showcased at the MEP Studio from February 28, 2024, to April 7, 2024. Renowned artist Iris Millot, recipient of the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents in 2023, presents her captivating series titled “Le soleil passe à l’embranchement” (The Sun Comes Out at the Fork in the Road).
This exhibition explores the life of her great-aunt Hélène, a former activist in the MLF, the women’s liberation movement in France. For four decades, Hélène has resided on her ancestral farm, tending to the land and preserving the adjacent forest. Even at the age of 77, she personally fells the trees when they perished. As water resources diminish, she is likely to be the last individual to cultivate the land. Iris Millot weaves together a narrative of Hélène’s life, employing a blend of photographs, recordings, excerpts from Hélène’s diaries, and materials discovered in her attic, blurring the lines between documentary and fiction.
