Venus Optics has introduced its first autofocus lens, the Laowa 10mm f/2.8 Zero-D FF. The full-frame lens weighs only 420 grams and is compatible with several mirrorless camera systems, including Canon RF, L-Mount, Nikon Z, and Sony E-mount. The Canon RF and L-Mount versions are only available in manual focus. However, Sony FE and Nikon Z users can fully use Laowa’s first autofocus lens.

“The auto-focus performance of this lens is nothing short of superb, rivaling some of the best in the market,” Laowa says, highlighting the lens’s suitability for environmental portraiture, landscape situations, and astrophotography.

The lens offers Laowa’s famous “Zero-D” performance, which means that the ultra-wide lens has very little distortion, no matter what focus version or mount you choose. All variants have an extremely small minimum focusing distance of 12 cm, for a maximum magnification of 0.24x. This is excellent for a wide-angle lens, allowing landscape photographers to get extremely close to foreground features.

The lens contains 15 elements, grouped into nine groups. This glass consists of two aspherical and three ED components. The lens also features Laowa’s frog-eye coating (FEC) on the front, which protects it from water and oil. The autofocus version has a five-blade aperture diaphragm, while the manual focus version has 14 blades.

Regardless of the version selected, the overall size and weight remain the same. It measures 70.8 millimeters long and has a maximum diameter of 82 millimeters. The lens contains a 77mm front filter thread, which allows for the use of filters, which is not always included with ultra-wide lenses.
