Profoto Introduces the Softbox Series
Profoto’s new softbox line, specifically called the “Profoto Softbox” series, is intended for the company’s larger and more powerful lights, the B, D, and Pro series. The new softboxes, which feature a built-in speedring and a collapsible design, are ready to use within seconds.
The Profoto Softboxes are available in three sizes: 3′ Octa, 1×4′ Strip, and 2×3′ Rectangular. All three are designed for both studio and on-location shooting.
The Softbox 3′ Octa is ideal for flattering portraits, according to Profoto. Its circle-shaped design provides natural-looking catchlights in a subject’s eyes and includes a detachable diffuser. It features a reflective silver interior.
The Softbox Strip, which measures 30 by 120 cm, is intended for edge or rim illumination.
“Its design produces soft light with long shadow edges on the long side and harder light with short shadow edges on the short side, making it ideal for edge or rim lighting. This essential light shaper enhances the curves and profiles of objects and effectively separates the subject from the background,” Profoto explains.
The Softbox Rectangular completes the trio of new softboxes, measuring 60 by 90 centimeters at the front. It is designed to provide precise and adaptable soft light suitable for fashion, beauty, and portrait photography.
“This essential tool offers precise control over lighting setups and suits most photography areas, making it no surprise that it’s one of our most popular shapes,” says Profoto.
Although designed for Profoto B, D, and Pro-series flashes, the new softboxes are also compatible with smaller units such as the popular Profoto A models A1X and A10. To utilize the new light modifiers with these units, customers will need an adapter, such as the Clic OCF Adapter II, which costs $300. They also function with innovative light-shaping modifiers such interchangeable soft grids, edge masks, diffusers, and strip masks.
All three new Profoto Softboxes cost $449 apiece and include an integrated speed ring and a protective pouch. The new modifiers run from $69 to $149.
