Cosina Unveils the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.2
Cosina has introduced the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.2 lens for full-frame VM mount cameras.
Cosina’s extensive line of VM lenses is compatible with Leica M-mount cameras. It has been developed to easily adapt to a wide range of mirrorless cameras, including those with Voigtlander adapters for E-mount, Z-mount, and X-mount cameras. Other businesses have also developed ways to adapt VM lenses to additional mounts.
Cosina claims that the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.2 VM has a maximum aperture of f/2.2 to reduce the prime lens’s size and weight. “It has a compact appearance that is highly portable and easy to take in and out of a bag,” Cosina says.
The lens is only 30 millimeters long and weighs 135 grams. Although it is lightweight, it is made of metal components, including an all-metal helicoid for focusing. The lens features a 39mm front filter thread.
Cosina offers accurate focus control, and the lens features etched distance markings in both metric and imperial values. “The focusing lever, designed to be easily gripped by the fingers, supports quick and reliable focusing operation,” says Cosina. The company further claims that a high-precision rangefinder coupling mechanism enables proper focus when shooting at or near the maximum aperture. The rangefinder coupling varies from 0.7 m to infinity, depending on the camera. The entire minimum focusing distance is 0.5 m.
In terms of image quality, Cosina claims “excellent optical performance,” saying that the new lens contains seven elements divided into six groups, including three pieces of “anomalous partial dispersion” glass. The lens has a 10-bladed aperture diaphragm, and the f-stop is manually adjustable via an aperture adjustment ring near the lens’s front.
Cosina’s new Voigtlander Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.2 full-frame lens will be available in silver and black next month. The lens will have a suggested retail price of ¥75,000, or 480 USD.
