PolarPro Unveils New LightLeak Lenses

PolarPro’s new LightLeak lenses aim to recreate the timeless sense of analog photography for a digital audience. PolarPro LightLeak lenses are available in Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts, with focal lengths of 16mm, 28mm, and 50mm. The low-cost fixed-focus lenses each promise a distinct look based on focal length and rely on less-than-optimal optics to deliver a more exciting image.

These new LightLeak lenses are supposed to have a vintage disposable camera appearance, so they aren’t clinically sharp like other modern lenses.

Using an adjustable ring on the lens barrel, photographers can create an unique opening that allows light to enter the lens, bounce about, and strike the image sensor, resulting in the digital equivalent of the light leak found in certain antique film cameras that aren’t totally sealed.

“Each frame tells a story and will have a distinct, vintage look — characterized by rich colors, natural grain, and adjustable light leaks that digital cameras simply can’t replicate,” the company claims. PolarPro also claims that LightLeak lenses react differently to each sensor and camera configuration, offering distinct image reproduction based on the user’s camera and the focal length of their LightLeak lens.

The 16mm and 28mm lenses have fixed focus, providing an in-focus image from one meter to infinity at a fixed f/11 aperture. The 50mm lens has the same fixed aperture, but its focus distance begins at three meters. All three casings have anodized aluminum lens barrels, with optical-grade polymer glass.

The LightLeak full-frame lenses sell for $130 each, regardless of focal length or lens mount. They come in 16mm, 28mm, and 50mm focal lengths for E, RF, X, and Z mount cameras. PolarPro also sells all three new LightLeak lenses as a bundle for $350, a $40 savings.
