Viltrox Unveils 56mm f/1.7 APS-C Lens for Sony Cameras

Viltrox’s new 56mm f/1.7 prime lens is a small, lightweight option for photographers and videographers using APS-C Sony cameras. This lens is part of the Viltrox Air family of compact and accessible lenses, weighing only 170 grams and designed for travel and street photography.

Viltrox markets this as an entry-level alternative for aspiring photographers looking to upgrade from an iPhone and portrait mode.

This lens has 11 elements in nine groups, and it is roughly equivalent to an 85mm full frame.

The lens includes an STM focusing motor, which normally provides rapid and near-silent autofocus performance. The lens appears well-built and features a metal rear mount, which is uncommon for lenses in this price range. It has a 52mm front filter thread to accommodate standard-sized filters and comes with a lens hood. It also includes a USB-C port in the rear mount for connecting to a computer for firmware upgrades.

At $180, the Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 is an affordable option for Sony crop-sensor users seeking a less expensive portrait lens.

The Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 is currently available on the Viltrox website.
