Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 35mm and 50mm Lenses for Z-Mount
Cosina has introduced updated Mark II versions of its Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 35mm f/2 and 50mm f/2 Aspherical lenses for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. Compared to their predecessors, released in 2022, the new Voigtlander lenses include a redesigned external design and a changed lens hood design. Like their predecessors, the new lenses are solely for full-frame Nikon Z-mount cameras. They have an apochromatic lens design that reduces axial chromatic aberration of red, green, and blue light, the three primary light colors.
The 35mm f/2 lens has 11 elements divided into nine groups, including five anomalous partial dispersion glass elements and a pair of aspherical elements. The lens also features a floating lens system. The 50mm f/2 prime comprises ten elements divided into eight groups, including five anomalous partial dispersion and two aspherical elements. Both new primes have 12-bladed aperture diaphragms that promise circular bokeh, which Cosina calls the blurred ball effect.
Like their predecessors, the Mark II lenses are fully manual focusing. They use a full-metal helicoid unit that is processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, resulting in smooth focusing and precise fine-focus adjustments. The 35mm lens has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.47, while the longer 50mm lens provides 1:6.46 reproduction.
The Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 35mm f/2 Aspherical II lens weighs 420 grams and measures 70.4 millimeters long, the same length as the original lens but 60 grams more. Both versions support 58mm front filters.
The 50mm f/2 Mark II weighs 370 grams and measures 64.3 millimeters long—the same size as its predecessor but 23 grams heavier. Each lens accepts 52mm front filters.
The Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 35mm f/2 Aspherical II lens will be available in December with a suggested retail price of ¥130,000, equivalent to approximately $890.
The APO-Lanthar 50mm f/2 Aspherical II will be available a month early, in November, at the same price point.
