SmallRig Introduces the New RC 100B Light

SmallRig has announced the new RC 100B COB video LED, aimed at at-home content creators and videographers who must travel light with lights. The fixture is small enough to work well when shooters need to conceal a kicker in the background or utilize it hand-held just off-screen.

The RC 100B follows the same design language as the earlier RC 60B COB, with a compact, cube-like housing that SmallRig claims is 20% smaller than standard 100-watt lights, with dials for intensity and color temperature. The color temperature ranges from 2700K to 6500K, with 12 distinct lighting effects. The light has a TCLI of 98+ and a CRI of 97+, making it highly color-correct and comparable to other lights in this category.

The RC 100B produces 4,610 lux at one meter and 20,100 lux with a 45-degree micro reflector. The front of the lamp has a Bowens mount for attaching industry-standard modifiers like lightboxes, umbrellas, and reflectors.

One of the light’s most notable features is its versatility in terms of powering options. The RC 100B includes a built-in V-Mount battery plate that works well with SmallRig’s popular VB line of V-Mount batteries. In addition, there is an optional mounting plate for two Sony NP-F970 batteries.

The most intriguing alternative, however, is USB-C power via a yet-to-be-released power handle adapter, which transforms the light from a regular light to a hand-held torch for run-and-gun situations. The grip appears highly ergonomic, with a smooth molded handle and a 1/4″-20 thread on the head that tilts by 40 degrees. The grip has a V-Mount in the base that powers the USB-C interface while also acting as a counterbalance to the light on top.

The RC 100B comes in two kits. The regular version retails for $195.49, including the light, a swivel head base for typical Arri light stands, a tiny reflector, and a silicone diffuser. There is also a mobile version, which costs $169.99. This variant includes the light and the micro reflector, the NP-F970 battery plate attachment, and a small handle.
