Panasonic Introduces the LUMIX S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3
Panasonic has announced the Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 for L-mount. It is the tiniest and lightest full-frame zoom lens for mirrorless cameras on the market.
Panasonic claims that the Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 is the world’s smallest and lightest autofocus-enabled interchangeable zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. It is also the thinnest, measuring only 40.9mm when retracted and weighing just 155 grams.
While its aperture is variable, it covers ultra-wide to conventional focal lengths and has a near shooting distance of 0.15 meters. While small, Panasonic claims it boasts high-quality video performance and effective focus breathing suppression. Panasonic’s Lumix S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 has eight components organized into seven groups, including three aspherical elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, and one ultra-high refractive element. Thanks to a seven-bladed diaphragm, its aperture ranges from f/4.5 to f/22 at the wide end and f/6.3 to f/32 at the long end.
The lens will be available for $499.99 in mid-November and $1799.99 when combined with the S9 Kit. In addition, Panasonic will introduce two new S9 colors: Sakura Pink and Mint Green. They will also be available in mid-November.
