Viltrox Announces the AF 28mm f/4.5 Full-Frame Lens
Viltrox has introduced its lightest and thinnest lens ever, the Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5. Despite its compact size, the new pancake lens provides full-frame coverage. According to Viltrox, the lens is ideal for applications requiring compact and lightweight equipment, such as trip photography, trekking, and vlogging. The lens also offers good starbursts around point light sources, albeit its comparatively slow f/4.5 aperture limits its suitability for every low-light setting.
The AF 28mm f/4.5 is a little pancake lens, weighing only 60 grams and measuring only 15.3 millimeters in length. This ultra-thin lens contains six elements organized into the same number of groups. The lens consists of two ED lenses to reduce chromatic aberration and a pair of aspherical lenses to reduce distortion and maintain picture quality throughout the image region.
The aperture is locked at f/4.5, therefore photographers cannot stop the lens down to a slower aperture in order to improve image quality or widen the depth of field.
The Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 can focus as near as 0.32 meters for a maximum magnification of 0.11x. A voice-coil motor system powers autofocus, ensuring exact accuracy.

The lens is Viltrox’s first Chip series lens, and it costs less than $100.
