Sirui Announces the Aurora 85mm f/1.4 Lens
Sirui has announced the Aurora 85mm f/1.4, a full-frame, autofocus prime lens for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Fujifilm X-mount. The Aurora 85mm f/1.4 is Sirui’s first autofocus-equipped full-frame lens, and it is billed as a master of portrait due to its promise of superb sharpness, superior high-resolution, and accurate color reproduction all housed in a compact, lightweight package.
Sirui’s Aurora 85mm f/1.4 has 14 elements grouped in nine groups, including one aspherical lens, two extra-low dispersion lenses, and three high refractive index glass elements. The end result, according to Sirui, is a lens with little aberration, well-controlled flare and ghosting, and high contrast, allowing it to capture crisp and precise photos even when illuminated.
The lens’s 15-bladed diaphragm allows for an aperture range of f/1.4 to f/16. The Aurora 85mm f/1.4 has a stepping motor to provide what Sirui characterizes as speed, accuracy, and quietness. It supports eye-AF and object tracking, making it suited for both basic still portraiture and fast-moving subjects.
Sirui’s lens is 80.3mm by 101.7mm and has a standard 67mm front filter thread. It weighs 540 grams, which is up to 100 grams lighter than the competition, yet it does not compromise on weather sealing, high-quality coatings, or superior glass optics. It has a minimum focus distance of 0.85 metres.
Sirui equipped the Aurora 85mm f/1.4 with an AFL focus lock button, an AF/MF switch, and an aperture ring that can be clicked or de-clicked using an onboard switch depending on whether it is used as a photo or video lens. It provides full electronic contact with Nikon Z, Sony E, and Fujifilm X-mount cameras, and a USB-C port on the lens allows photographers to upgrade firmware as needed.
Sirui’s Aurora 85mm f/1.4 lens is available for pre-order for $499 on the company’s website. It plans to begin shipping on November 18.
