Nikon Launches the Arcrest II Gold Filters
The Arcrest II Protection Filters (Gold Edition) are high-performance protection filters with an anti-static coating. They feature ultra-low reflection coating to preserve the glass of a lens front element while keeping the original image quality.
Nikon claims that the Arcrest II line expands on the original series of Nikon filters by utilizing the company’s proprietary technology of multi-layer AR coating known as “Zero One AR Coat” with an ultra-low reflectance rate close to the single-sided design value of approximately 0.1% in the visible light range of 420nm to 680nm.
“Typically, a spring or metal ring secures the filter glass to the filter frame. However, the prior method exerted stress on the glass surface, resulting in distortion,” Nikon explains.
“Nikon’s innovative mounting method, the ‘Flat Plane System,’ secures the glass by inserting a special elastomer between it and the frame. This greatly decreases tension on the glass and minimizes mount-related distortion. Furthermore, the elastomer can endure both high and low temperatures, ensuring that glass retention strength remains constant even in extreme hot or cold situations. The filter frame’s glass retention strength is designed to pass a 400G impact resistance test, making it less probable that the glass would break off or the filter frame will disassemble.”
They will be available in Japan in “late December 2024.” Japanese photographers can purchase the Arcrest II Protection Filter (Gold Edition) in three sizes: 77mm, 82mm, and 92mm for 16,500 yen (about $107), 19,800 yen (about $129), and 33,000 yen (about $214).
