Fotodiox Unveils the Mamiya 6 to Fujifilm GFX Fusion Adapter

Fotodiox has launched the Mamiya 6 to Fujifilm GFX Fusion converter, which it claims is the first lens adapter to electrically manage Mamiya 6 lenses.

The maker claims that Mamiya 6 rangefinder lenses were built to be electronically controlled particularly by the Mamiya 6 camera, making them impossible to adapt until now. Using Fotodiox’s Fusion technology, electronic communication is successfully established between the lens and a Fujifilm GFX body, enabling some automated operations such as aperture control.

“With the Fusion, you can mount and use Mamiya 6 lenses on your FUJIFILM GFX camera by unlocking their internal electronic leaf shutters, allowing you to take full advantage of this superb vintage glass,” according to the company.

However, the all-metal adapter comes with some particular startup instructions. When switching lenses, use the function button to calibrate the adapter to the lens to ensure accurate aperture EXIF data. To calibrate, set the Mamiya 6 lens to f/8, insert it on the FUSION adapter, and then click the adapter’s “FN” button.

If the camera goes to sleep, the shutter will lock again, so photographers must wake it up and turn the blue ring again to unlock it.

The Fotodiox Mamiya 6 to Fujifilm GFX Fusion adapter is all-metal and contains a USB port (sadly, micro USB) for future firmware updates. It is available today for $500 and comes with a 24-month warranty.
