7Artisans Announces the 18mm f/5.6 Full-Frame Lens
7Artisans’ new FF 18mm f/5.6 lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras provides a wide-angle field of view in a small and inexpensive design. Depending on the attachment, the $89 lens weighs just 146 grams and measures 25 to 29 millimeters long. The 7Artisans 18mm f/5.6 is a pancake lens available in Sony E, Nikon Z, and L mounts.
The 18mm f/5.6 lens includes seven elements divided into five groups, including two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and one high-refraction element. The 18mm f/5.6 lens has a metal chassis and accommodates 49mm filters.
The lens sacrifices some features and versatility to achieve its tiny size and low price of less than $100. Perhaps the major drawback is that it has a fixed aperture, which means it only shoots at f/5.6, which is not a particularly brilliant aperture. Furthermore, the lens is a manual focus, so photographers should keep that in mind. However, producing sharp photographs should not be difficult with the wide-angle field of vision and f/5.6 aperture. The lens can focus as close as 0.3 m.
