Blackmagic Design Announces Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0
The video camera app has been updated to include support for new Android devices, such as the Samsung S25 Ultra, which introduced log recording this year. The app update also includes new features, functionality, and improvements.
“Since we released Blackmagic Camera for iPad, customers have asked for support on Android tablets,” says Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. “Our engineers have been working hard not only to offer support for Android tablets, but also to continuously adding new phone models. It’s fantastic that we can add remote control and monitoring while also supporting Android tablets. The tablet’s bigger display is ideal for monitoring up to nine cameras in a multi-view!”
One of the most significant new features is the ability to remotely operate and monitor several phones and tablets at the same time. Users can use their device as a controller and adjust the settings for all Blackmagic Cameras on the same Wi-Fi network. The controller device can also watch all of the camera shots in a multi-view mode and start and stop recording on all cameras at the same time.
Blackmagic Camera 2.0 for Android also enables recording at 120 and 240 frames per second on Sony Xperia handsets, as well as lens control with Tilta Nucleus USB devices.
The software brings digital film camera controls and operating systems to smartphones, including controls over frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO, all through a touchscreen user interface modeled after Blackmagic’s movie cameras. The app integrates with Blackmagic Cloud, allowing users to record straight to the cloud at up to 8K quality. Blackmagic Cloud enables remote collaboration and editing across DaVinci Resolve projects.
Blackmagic Camera 2.0 is now available for free on the Google Play store. Blackmagic Cloud features require a paid subscription, however Blackmagic Camera is completely free.
