Viltrox Unveils a 28mm f/4.5 Chip Lens for Fujifilm
Viltrox is introducing their almost impossibly small 28mm f/4.5 Chip lens for Fujifilm X Series cameras.
Viltrox, the Chinese lens producer that announced the 60-gram full-frame lens for Sony E-mount in October, has announced that it will be available for APS-C Fujifilm X cameras. The lens is moving to X unmodified, which means it retains its optical design for full-frame cameras and should perform well on Fujifilm’s APS-C mirrorless cameras.
Although the lens is small and has a fixed aperture, it is autofocus-equipped. The lens uses a voice-coil motor system to provide quick, quiet autofocus performance. The Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 Chip can focus as close as 0.32 meters and has a maximum magnification of 0.11x.
Regarding image quality, Viltrox promises “sharp, vibrant images with stunning starburst effects,” although this must be considered in context. The lens comprises six elements grouped in as many groups, including two ED lenses and a pair of aspherical elements.
The main selling feature of the Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 lens is its size. As previously indicated, the lens weights only 60 grams. It is only 15.25 mm long.
Because the lens is compact, lightweight, and inexpensive, it can double as a camera body cap. After all, it isn’t much larger than a standard body cap. The lens uses a slide lever mechanism to transition between “cap” and shooting modes.
