Cosina has unveiled the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35mm f/3.5 Aspherical lens for VM mount, a new lightweight and small prime lens for Leica M format rangefinder cameras.

The Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35mm f/3.5 weighs just 99 grams, making it one of the lightest 35mm prime lenses on the market. The lens is compact, measuring 14 millimeters from the mount to the front surface. The lens features a 34mm front filter thread. The tiny, lightweight lens has a simple optical design with six elements grouped into four groups. These include a double-sided aspherical glass element and three anomalous partial dispersion elements.

The manual focus lens includes a visible focusing lever that allows you to alter the focus effortlessly. In proper Voigtlander form, the lens has an all-metal helicoid unit for accurate focus control. The focusing unit contains high-quality grease that provides ideal torque, ensuring smooth but dependable focus even when making tiny adjustments.

The lens barrel is made of brass and comes in two colorways: silver and black paint. The black paint finish extends to the mount and influences both the focus lock button and the focus lever. Cosina points out that the infinity and close-focus stoppers are nickel-plated to offer some contrast to the design. The lens comes with a color-matched metal hood.

“In order to prevent the overall length from increasing when used in conjunction with the hood, a specially made thin frame filter with a thickness of only 1.1 millimeters from the lens filter thread is also included,” according to Cosina.

The lens has a high-precision rangefinder linkage system, can focus as close as 0.7 meters, and has a 10-bladed aperture diaphragm. The lens has a full-frame image circle, and because it is a VM mount lens, it is easily compatible with a wide range of current mirrorless cameras. Cosina states that the lens’s well-balanced construction makes it an excellent choice for mirrorless cameras with a mount adapter.
