Angelbird, a European memory card manufacturer, has introduced new CFexpress Type B memory cards. The Angelbird AV Pro SE CFexpress v4 Type B cards, as the name implies, use CFexpress 4.0 technology, which is twice as fast as CFexpress 2.0.

Angelbird claims their latest cards are resistant to severe temperatures, dampness, dust, drops, X-rays, and magnetic forces.

While no cameras currently take full advantage of the speeds provided by CFexpress 4.0, the higher bandwidth and performance are useful when photographers and videographers transfer files, as long as they utilize appropriate card readers.

Angelbird’s new CFexpress Type B cards are available in four capacities: 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Although each card guarantees the same maximum read speed of 3,700 MB/s and sustained read speed of 3,500 MB/s, the sizes differ in terms of sustained and maximum write rates.

The 512GB card has the lowest performance, with a maximum write speed of 1,100 MB/s and sustained write speeds guaranteed at 1,050 MB/s. The 1TB card ranks in the center of the performance hierarchy, with a maximum write speed of 2,300 MB/s and sustained write speeds of 2,100 MB/s.

The 2TB and 4TB cards complete the quartet, delivering identical performance. These cards provide a maximum write speed of 3,500 MB/s, and Angelbird guarantees that write speeds will never go below 3,150 MB/s, “based on internal testing.”

Angelbird’s new CFexpress Type B cards, particularly the 2TB and 4TB models, offer excellent performance. However, all four sizes are fast enough for all photographers and videographers, whether they are shooting full-resolution RAW bursts or 8K (or even 12K) videos.
