Insta360 Launches X5 360° Camera

Insta360 has officially introduced the Insta360 X5, its latest flagship 360-degree camera, described by the company as “the smartest, toughest 360-degree camera ever made”.

While it maintains the same 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, the X5 boasts major upgrades compared to its predecessor launched one year ago, including larger Type 1/1.28 image sensors—144% larger than those in the X4—and a powerful new Triple AI Chip system. These changes improve image quality across the board, especially in low-light conditions, where the new PureVideo mode utilizes advanced AI-driven noise reduction and dynamic range optimization for vivid footage even at night.

The camera is equipped with a 6mm equivalent f/2 lens and supports various video resolutions, including 5.7K at 30 or 60 fps, 4K at 120 fps, and 4K at 60 fps in single-lens mode. PureVideo mode is capped at 30 fps but is available across all resolutions. On the photography side, the X5 can capture still images up to 72 megapixels and offers RAW DNG support for professional-grade editing.

The Insta360 X5 also introduces an ultra-durable lens system made of scratch-resistant, high-strength glass. For the first time for Insta360 products, the lens can be easily replaced thanks to the camera’s modular, user-replaceable design. The camera is also more rugged than its predecessor, with improved waterproofing that now reaches depths of 15 meters without requiring a dive housing. For those who needing more depth- capability, an optional dive case is available.

The new 2400mAh battery can last up to 185 minutes in 5.7K using the Endurance Mode, and it supports fast charging, reaching 80% in 20 minutes. The X5 also features a built-in wind guard with a multi-layer mesh design that, combined with upgraded audio algorithms, delivers clearer sound.

The X5 also features an InstaFrame mode: when switched on, the camera records two files simultaneously: a flat, instantly shareable video that requires no reframing, and a full 360-degree version that can be edited extensively later. Users can choose a fixed viewing angle or a selfie-tracking mode that keeps them in frame throughout the recording.

The camera integrates with the redesigned Insta360 mobile app, offering both manual and AI-driven editing tools. New features include a one-tap Dewarp function to correct fisheye distortion and a one-tap export option for easy sharing. Existing tools such as Quick Edit, AI Edit, and Shot Lab remain available. The Insta360 Studio desktop application is also freely available for high-quality exports and more in-depth editing.

The X5 is compatible with Insta360+, the company’s cloud service that enables automatic file backup, instant sharing, and cloud-based editing and exporting, helping streamline workflows for content creators.

To enhance user experience, Insta360 has also introduced recording options such as “Twist to Shoot,” which activates recording by simply rotating the selfie stick, Voice Control 2.0, Gesture Control, and pairing with a wireless remote. The camera’s mounting system remains magnetic.

Now available for purchase, the standard Insta360 X5 is priced at $549.99. An Essentials Bundle—which includes an extra battery, a fast-charging case, a 114cm Invisible Selfie Stick, standard lens guards, a lens cap, and a carry case—is available for $659.99.
