Trieste Photo Days: International festival of urban photography 2020
20 October 2020 at 8:00 - 8 November 2020 at 17:00
Trieste Photo Days is an international festival dedicated to urban photography that explores the contemporary through all forms of photography set in the urban fabric, since 2014.
The festival has established itself over the years as a cross-media creative container that brings together exhibitions of Italian and foreign artists, workshops, screenings, contests, book presentations, meetings and other events related to street photography, architectural photography and artistic photography. A place of encounter and exchange between the public and both professional and amateur photographers.
The common denominator is the City, with its urban environment and the humanity that populates it: the daily life of the metropolis and small inhabited centers, the contrasts and contradictions of the city and the province, the artistic views, the architectural geometries, the fragments of color that break the greyness of the city.
The aim of the festival is to promote a type of photographic carrier of artistic, documental, ethnographic and sociological value, which bears testimony of today. A cross-section of urban contemporaneity able to speak about the social changes taking place in the big city as in the small village too.
Trieste Photo Days avails itself of the artistic direction of Angelo Cucchetto, event planner, critic and photographic promoter from Milan, founder of Photographers.it, the main Italian portal dedicated to photography as well as official media partner of the festival.
Creator and leader of the project is dotART, a cultural association that since 2009 promotes, on the territory and abroad, initiatives aimed at giving support and visibility to photographers. In particular, dotART has been promoting the international urban photography competition URBAN Photo Awards, which is among the “cultural reservoirs” of the festival.
URBAN sees every year thousands of participating pictures and hundreds of participants from all over the world. It is an always growing international contest, one of the very few that goes “over the boundaries” of Internet offering to photographers real visibility through dozens of international photo exhibitions. Only in 2017, URBAN realized 36 exhibitions displaying about 800 pictures. Since 2011 URBAN has set up exhibitions in Poland (Krakow, Lodz and Warsaw), Hungary (Budapest, Pècs and Miskolc), Cyprus (Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia), Serbia (Belgrade) Latvia (Riga), Slovenia (Koper), Ukraine ( Sumy), Croatia (Porec), Germany (Berlin), Colombia (Bucaramanga) and Italy (Trieste and Rome).
Parallel to the main calendar of the exhibition, there will be Trieste Photo Fringe, a “diffused festival” of Trieste Photo Days, which contains a series of events dedicated to emerging authors from all over the world. An event was able to make culture in Trieste during the year through impromptu events connected to the festival. From January to December, Fringe’s exhibitions are located in a circuit of 12-15 venues and expositive seats in the center of Trieste, contributing to give visibility to the festival. The Fringe events culminate during the Trieste Photo Days, with a series of inaugurations of exhibitions.
The ambition is to give life to an annual international event, which aims to become a reference point in Italy and Europe.
