Interested in photography since the age of ten, Mitchell Walker was self-taught in photography using the Family’s Kodak Camera and reading books and various publications on the subject. Los Angeles, where he grew up, became his subject matter over a time span of several years producing several images that are part of his portfolio. His work was first displayed in student group shows beginning in 1970 at Los Angeles City College. A photograph of his one-year-old nephew silhouetted against the screen door of his home was highly praised. At the age of 21 he became a Photographer’s mate in the United States Navy. This experience allowed him freedom to create other images, and to sharpen his photographic abilities to establish his own vision.
In 1983, he presented his first of three one-man exhibition of his work. Over the years, Mitchell Walker was the recipient of various awards for his photography including a commendation from the City of Los Angeles for his participation in the exhibition “Visions of Venice Beach” some group shows and single exhibitions including a gallery exhibition of Architectural photos in Barcelona, Spain. Many of Mitchell Walker Photographs are in various private collections, and the collection of Santa Monica College and Colorado State University.
Mitch worked at Hanna-Barbera and other Animation Studios, in Hollywood, California, as a cartoon animator for over 20 years. During this period, he continued to expand his knowledge and passion for photography. He accepted commissioned assignments from various organizations. This work included record album, magazine covers, dance recitals, wedding and various other social and private events.
