7Artisans Announces the 10mm f/2.8 Mark II Ultra Wide-Angle Full-Frame Fisheye Lens
Chinese lens manufacturer 7Artisans just announced a new version of their 10mm f/2.8 diagonal fisheye lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The 10mm f/2.8 Mark II costs less than $280 and is compatible with E, L, RF, and Z-mount cameras.
The new 10mm f/2.8 II, with its all-new design, replaces the previous 10mm f/2.8 in 7Artisans’ lineup.
The 10mm f/2.8 II, like its predecessor, has 11 lens elements grouped in eight groups. Although 7Artisans’ official specs state that the lens has a 10-bladed aperture diaphragm, the company’s product description indicates that it has eight aperture blades. In either event, the lens promises “dazzling” sunstars when stopped down to f/4 or higher.
The most noticeable difference with the new lens is its physical form. The original version became narrower at the front, whereas the new Mark II lens is slightly wider toward the end. Both versions use manual focus and aperture adjustment rings, but the updated version has depth of field indications on the barrel. These, along with the other markers on the lens barrel, glow in the dark.
7Artisans claims its new lens has improved image quality and an updated optical diagram. While the total number of elements and groups remains identical, there is now an additional ED element, increasing the total to two, as well as a new aspherical lens. The updated design has also lowered the minimum focusing distance from 0.17 meters (6.7 inches) to 0.15 meters (5.9 inches). This modification is unlikely to have a significant impact, but it is worth noting.
With these different upgrades, the new edition is heavier than its predecessor, weighing just over 600 grams, up from 570 grams.
7Artisans has also created a new lens profile for use with Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop and Lightroom, allowing photographers to decrease fisheye distortion and produce straight lines with the same wide field of vision.
The 7Artisans 10mm f/2.8 II fisheye lens is currently available for purchase at $278. It is compatible with E, L, RF, and Z mount cameras, but its predecessor, which is still available at shops for $256, also has a GF version for GFX medium-format cameras.
