7Artisans Introduces the 12mm f/2.8 II Wide-Angle APSC Lens for Mirrorless Cameras
7Artisans has launched the 12mm f/2.8 Mark II, an upgraded version of its earlier 12mm f/2.8 lens, supporting Nikon Z, Sony E, Fuji X, EOS-M, and MFT mounts. A few design and performance enhancements, including the capacity to handle circular (screw-on) filters, are included in the upgraded big aperture ultra wide angle Mark II lens.
According to the company, the new manual focus lens is made up of twelve elements arranged in ten groups with five diaphragm blades, has an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/16 with a click-less aperture ring, and has a 100-degree angle of view.
The upgraded Mark II lens design, according to 7Artisans, delivers a clean bokeh pattern, although the business did not explain how it compares to the original lens version. The new design appears to be more current than the previous version, and the system can now directly mount 67mm thread-size filters to it without using any third-party adapters.
According to 7Artisans, the ability to employ filters on the lens will allow photographers to generate more creative shots when photographing landscapes, astrophotography, architecture, street photography, and even sports because the lens gives such a wide angle in such a small and lightweight (301-gram) package.
The new 12mm f/2.8 II lens includes a metal body with a big grooved focus ring towards the end of the lens barrel for easy manual adjustments, as well as a “depth of field” scale nestled between it and the aperture ring, which is placed near the lens mount.
The lens is 66mm long and 70mm in diameter, and the 67mm filters fit inside the hood. In addition, the lens has a close focusing distance of only 15 centimeters (5.91 inches). According to the company, the upgraded lens is suitable for low-light situations, exploiting the ultra-wide angle of view to keep the shutter speed and ISO sensitivity at levels that allow for hand-held shooting of clear photographs.
Furthermore, the manufacturer claims that the enhanced lens design has greatly improved edge resolution and reduced overall distortion, implying that customers should not require any lens profile modifications.
