7Artisans Unveils a 24mm f/1.4 for APS-C Cameras

A brand-new, incredibly affordable 24mm f/1.4 wide-angle prime lens for APS-C camera mounts has been released by 7Artisans; however, it lacks autofocus.

The $109 lens, according to the producer, may be used to capture landscapes, environmental portraiture, street photography, and other wide-angle scenarios. It is now compatible with the Fujifilm X-mount, but support for the Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, Canon EOSM, and Micro Four Thirds mounts will be added next week.

The lens comprises seven elements organized into six groups, including two extra-low dispersion elements and two refraction elements that, according to 7Artisans, work together to provide clear, vibrant images with little distortion. Its nine-bladed diaphragm has an aperture range of f/1.4 to f/16, a 61-degree field of vision, a 49mm front filter thread, and a weight of 344 grams.

The lens isn’t very small, measuring 61 by 65mm; the weight is probably a result of the all-metal construction and the lens size. For this trade-off, the manufacturer guarantees a highly durable construction quality that makes it perfect for outdoor shooting.

It’s important to note that the aperture ring didn’t have a click or de-click switch; instead, it always de-clicked. The lens is therefore promoted as a choice that video shooters may find appealing.

“Say goodbye to distracting clicks while filming and enjoy seamless aperture adjustments that won’t interrupt your footage,” the product description reads. “The clickless aperture ring gives you the freedom to make smooth, precise changes to your depth of field at any time, without disturbing the audio quality.”

The lens is possibly best employed for video work because it lacks autofocus, a clicking aperture ring, and, likely, any electronic connection with an attached camera.

Nevertheless, it is still clearly useful for taking still pictures, and 7Artisans has offered the following examples of the image quality:

The 7Artisans 24mm f/1.4 wide-angle lens for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds cameras is now available for $109 from Pergear and Amazon. With the promise that the other five mounts will begin delivering the following week, Fujifilm X-mount is available this week.
