7Artisans has introduced the 50mm f/1.8 lens for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. This is the company’s first autofocus lens. While it features a revolutionary autofocus technology, the new 50mm f/1.8 prime is not the company’s first 50mm prime lens. The company also includes a 50mm T2.0 cinema lens and a 50mm f/0.95 prime for APS-C cameras.

The new 50mm f/1.8 AF lens is 104 millimeters long and weighs 412 grams. It contains 11 elements divided into nine groups, including a pair of aspherical glass elements, two high refraction index elements, and an ED glass optic.

The autofocus technology features a stepping motor (STM) that offers “high-speed, reliable autofocus” performance. The lens is compatible with a variety of advanced Sony autofocus functions, including face and eye detection autofocus. In terms of minimum focusing distance, the lens can focus as near as 0.5 meters, which puts it outside the scope of macro photography.
