Angelbird Unveils the SSD2GO PKT Rugged Drives

Angelbird has introduced two upgraded portable SSDs with 2TB and 4TB capacities. The tiny, durable drives are intended for professional creators and incorporate a physical write-protect button to prevent users from accidentally overwriting or deleting important files.

“The SSD2GO PKT is our most practical super compact external drive yet, providing up to 4 TB of extra memory,” Angelbird says. “Ultra-fast, uninterrupted transfer makes it perfect for backing up, editing, or accessing files on the go. You can connect it directly to your camera for seamless content creation during live recording.”

To make the new SSD even more useful for filmmakers and other visual producers, it has a recessed USB-C connector. This ensures that the cable stays attached more consistently during run-and-gun recording and chaotic sets. The drive comes with a color-matched, flexible USB-C 4.0 cable, which should last longer due to the recessed connector.

“The SSD2GO PKT has been and continues to be, one of our most successful mobile SSD storage solutions. It’s a reliable and durable companion for video, photo, and audio professionals, whether you’re working on set or handling personal projects,” says Angelbird’s founder and CEO, Roman Rabitsch.

When it comes to unpredictable and hectic workflows, the SSD2GO PKT’s embedded write-protect switch ensures that users do not accidentally erase files or format their SSD while unloading. A built-in LED light indicates if the switch is active.

The Angelbird SSD2GO PKT features an aluminum chassis that can withstand severe temperatures, stress, electrostatic discharge, and overloads. The drive measures 70 by 45.5 by 9.5 millimeters and weighs around 50 grams.

The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 drive offers up to 1,800 MB/s read, and 1,700 MB/s write speeds, with a sustained write speed of 1,600 MB/s. Because it is a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 SSD, Mac users may not be able to fully utilize its capabilities, with speeds expected to be approximately half of the advertised figure. However, the drive is fast enough for various applications, including video editing and direct recording via USB-C from cameras and mobile devices.

The Angelbird SSD2GO PKT costs $379.99 for the 2 TB version and $649.99 for the 4 TB model.
