Aputure Launches Storm XT52
Aputure has officially launched the Storm XT52, the most advanced fixture in its Storm series and, as the company itself claims, “the most powerful point source LED fixture in the industry”. The Storm XT52 features the company’s Blair light engine (Blue/Lime/Amber/Indigo/Red), making it a powerful adjustable-color light, covering over 70% of the Rec2020 color space.
The Storm XT52 delivers a tunable white light ranging from 2500K to 10,000K, with full +/- green tint control. The inclusion of an indigo emitter introduces near-UV wavelengths that naturally enhance fluorescent materials, replicating the look of daylight and tungsten light sources.
“We set out to create the most powerful point-source LED in the industry,” says Ted Sim, President and Co-Founder of Aputure. “With the XT52, we’ve pushed our Blair light engine to new limits, incorporating its broad CCT range, green control, and Indigo emitter while also unlocking full-color capabilities. This allows filmmakers to use it for daylight replacement, vibrant sunset hues, or anything in between—without sacrificing brightness.”
Storm XT52’s lamp head weighs 27.7kg, while the control box weights 13kg and features a mounting clamp for easy attachment to a light stand. The standard 7.5m head cable can be extended up to 45m without loss of output, making it possible for use with cranes and condors while keeping the control box at ground level.
With the included 35° reflector, using it at 5600K from 5 meters, the Storm XT52 produces an 41,900 Lux. Aputure claims a peak output of 48,000 Lux with the 35° reflector and 29,000 Lux with the 50° option.
The Storm XT52 operates at full brightness when powered by industry-standard 6500W portable generators, such as the Honda 6500W and 7000W models. With 220V input, it draws 5200W at maximum brightness, and at 110V, it reaches up to 3200W, which is still 10% brighter than Aputure’s Electro Storm XT26. The head cables can be daisy-chained up to 45m, increasing power draw to 6000W when using 220V. A built-in menu function allows users to limit power consumption, making it adaptable to different power sources.
Aputure’s third-generation HyperDrive power system ensures zero flicker at any color above 20% brightness. It also features a durable, weather-resistant IP65-rated construction with a modular design for quick servicing.
In addition to the 35° reflector, others beam-shaping options are available. The optional Reflector Kit provides 20°, 25°, and 50° choices. At NAB 2025, Aputure will preview new accessories, including the CF16 Compact Fresnel, offering a 20°-62° adjustable beam with manual or motorized zoom, and the Storm Parallel Beam 70, a hyper-narrow 5° Cassegrain reflector that delivers a highly focused beam with enhanced shadow quality and twice the brightness of standard options. Additional Light Dome and Lantern modifiers for the Aputure Mount will also be introduced.
The Storm XT52 may be seen at the Aputure booth (N2969) at the NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 6 to April 9, as well as at the APEX Aputure Experience at Vu Studios from April 6 to 8. The Storm XT52 is planned to be delivered in Q2 2025 at an MSRP of €12.900 (minus VAT) and will also be available in a Dual Flight Case Kit for €13.600 (ex VAT).
