Brooklyn Film Camera Announces Instant Optics for Polaroid SX-70 and 600 Cameras

Brooklyn Film Camera has unveiled a new range of screw-on prisms called Instant Optics, which are designed for Polaroid SX-70 and 600 cameras and allow photographers to creatively enhance their instant images.

The Brooklyn-based business introduced a set of five distinct prisms that fit neatly into specific Polaroid cameras and significantly alter the appearance of images taken through them.

“Our prism lenses are made of optical-grade glass and are seated on articulating metal rings that allow rotation after being securely mounted, granting you precision control of the effect,” Brooklyn Film Camera says. “They are a high-quality photographic tool to last you a lifetime of use. This marks the first time that high-quality glass optics have been manufactured specifically for the Polaroid ecosystem in over 40 years.”

Brooklyn Film Camera provides a kaleidoscope, split, diamond, vortex, and linear filter, each with a unique result. The kaleidoscope prism replicates the mosaic appearance of kaleidoscopes, which changes based on the photographer’s distance from the subject. The split prism produces fuzzy refractions on two edges of the frame while keeping the center in focus. The diamond prism divides the vision into five images, which, like a kaleidoscope, alter based on the distance to the topic. The vortex prism allows photographers to frame their subjects with a circular halo effect that keeps the center sharp while blurring the backdrop. Finally, the linear prism produces geometrical effects.

After being securely attached, all of the prisms can be rotated, providing photographers complete control over how the effects are shown. Each Instant Optics filter costs $30 and can be ordered online or picked up in person at Brooklyn Film Camera’s physical store in New York.
