Canon Releases the PowerShot V1 Camera
The Canon PowerShot V1, which debuted at CP+ last month, has been officially launched for Canon’s global audience. While there are no new features or specifications to mention, customers now know when and for how much the PowerShot V1 will be available.
The PowerShot V1 is aimed for creators who want to upgrade from their smartphones without the burden of an interchangeable lens camera system.
The Canon PowerShot V1 has a newly built 22-megapixel Type 1.4 sensor. The V1’s built-in 8.2-25.6mm f/2.8-4.5 lens provides an equivalent focal length range of 16-50mm (17-52mm in video mode).
The Canon PowerShot V1 inherits the majority of the R6 Mark II’s autofocus system, including its autofocus speed and subject tracking features.
Canon’s new PowerShot camera also incorporates video features from the company’s EOS R series mirrorless cameras, such as C-Log 3 recording and video shooting moods, which are a first for a PowerShot model. The PowerShot V1 shoots 4Kp60 video with a 1.4x cut and 4Kp30 video at the full width of the image sensor.
The camera also has a built-in cooling fan to provide longer recording times. In a normal situation, with the camera’s Auto Power Off setting set to “High,” the PowerShot V1 can record 4Kp60 video for more than two hours. With the fan set to “Auto” or “High Speed,” the camera has no limitations for shooting 4Kp30 or Full HD footage.
Although the PowerShot V1 is primarily intended for video makers, it also includes some still photography features. The camera can shoot 22.3-megapixel still images (JPEG and RAW) at up to 30 frames per second.
The PowerShot V1 can live stream via USB and even answer video calls. The camera connects immediately to Canon’s Camera Connect app, either wirelessly or cable.
The Canon PowerShot V1 will be available in April for an estimated retail price of $899.99.
