Cooke Introduces Four New S8/i FF Focal Lengths
Since 1894, Cooke Optics, a British lens maker with more than 120 years of experience, has produced lenses for cinematographers. Today, the company announced the release of four new S8/i FF focal lengths: 18mm, 27mm, 35mm, and 65mm, which will join the state-of-the-art S8/i Full Frame series range, which debuted in March of last year.
The S8/i FF lenses, an evolution of the well-known Cooke Loo, produce stunning images with an organic feel, a smooth, spherical bokeh effect, and little to no color fringing.
One of the remaining areas where a cinematographer may still define their unique appearance and style is lens choice nowadays. Some will argue that the organic film appearance has vanished with the advent of digital sensors, however, the Cooke S8/I lenses can still provide the renowned Cooke-Look.
The Cooke S8/i FF series range currently comprises 11 lenses, with further focal lengths due in 2023. These 11 lenses include the new focal length lenses of 18mm, 27mm, 35mm, and 65mm. There will be 16 alternative focal lengths in the full spectrum of high-speed, full-frame cine lenses, ranging from 18mm to 350mm.
The S8/i FF lenses are among the fastest produced, with a maximum aperture of T1.4 over the optical range. They offer total control over flare and depth-of-field characteristics but still operate well in low light without introducing grain.
The newest intelligent /i technology from Cooke is incorporated into every lens.
The S8/i FF lenses include:
- /i data focus and iris position
- /i motion inertial data
- /i maps factory-calibrated shading and distortion data
The four new Cooke Optics S8/i FF spherical lenses are now available to order in both PL and LPL mount options.
