Cosina Releases Limited Editions of the Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/3.5 VM Lens
Next month, Cosina will sell three limited edition Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/3.5 VM Limited lenses, each with a distinctive, unique color scheme.
The new limited VM mount lenses share the same technical parameters as the normal Cosina Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/3.5 Type I lens, which was unveiled earlier this year.
The compact standard lens has eight elements organized into six groups, including four anomalous partial-dispersion glass elements. Cosina promises “uncompromising optical performance,” while the apochromatic lenses promise to eradicate optical aberrations, particularly chromatic aberrations, which cause unattractive color fringing. The lens has a manually adjustable 10-bladed aperture.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.45 meters (17.7 inches) and is rangefinder-coupled. The manual focus lens features an all-metal helicoid assembly that ensures precise focusing performance. Cosina promises “just the right amount” of torque, resulting in smooth yet slight focus adjustments.
The lens is only 45 millimetres (1.8 inches) long and weighs 235 grams (8.3 ounces). The lens can take 34mm front filters.
What distinguishes these new lenses is their color and look. Each lens is available in three colorways: olive green, medium gray, and blue, with a colorful focus ring against a classic silver body, and comes with color-matched lens hoods and bags.
Cosina and Voigtlander have collaborated for 25 years, and these bright new lenses celebrate that cooperation. Because these are unique edition lenses, there are only 250 of each color available. Each lens also bears an engraved limited edition number.

The Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/3.5 VM Limited lens will be available next month for 125,000 yen each, which is equivalent to $808 at current currency rates.
Although these lenses are M-mount, Cosina says that they are easily adaptable to Sony E-mount, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z cameras using Cosina’s mount adapters. The company states: “Since it is optimized for M-mount camera sensors, please note that the original optical performance will not be achieved with these cameras.”
