Cosina Announces the Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm f/2 Lens

The new design APO-Ultron VM 90mm F2 offers very high optical performance in a small compact lens that extends only 63.3mm from the lens mount. The apochromatic design reduces axial chromatic aberration close to zero. The lens does not protrude into the viewfinder frame, and has excellent portability.

Main Features:

  • The apochromatic design makes the on-axis chromatic aberration of RGB as close to zero as possible.
  • The newly designed optical system uses abnormal partial dispersion glass for 6 out of 8 elements in 7 groups. The compact lens design is only 63.3mm long.
  • The aperture diaphragm is configured with 12 blades to make the aperture opening as circular as possible. This means the out-of-focus areas of images are drawn naturally, and point light sources, etc., are drawn as soft, round bokeh rather than polygonal shapes.
  • The attached metal hood has a bayonet-type fitting that can be mounted in reverse when stored or carried.
  • By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling and delicate focus adjustment is realized.
  • With careful, experienced design, the focusing action is smooth and precise.
  • The VM mount is compatible with the M lens mount.
  • The high-precision rangefinder focusing enables precise focusing wide open.
  • A generous image circle that supports full-frame 35mm format is secured. In addition, it achieves a very compact style compared to interchangeable lenses for SLR cameras.

The Cosina Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm f/2 will be available in black and silver when it hits stores in January 2025. The lens has a suggested retail price of 120,000 yen in Japan.
