DJI’s New Mic Mini Weighs Only 10 Grams
DJI’s new Mic Mini, weighing only 10 grams, claims to deliver excellent wireless mic performance in an exceptionally compact size.
“DJI Mic Mini packs unbelievable sound into an incredibly compact, extremely light package, bringing the high quality audio expected from DJI in a mini microphone for a modest price of $169,” says Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI.
“Content makers can rely on DJI Mic Mini to capture incredibly dynamic, crystal-clear sound in any scenario, and they’ll appreciate its portability and utility. DJI continues to provide the broadest range of creators with the most creative tools, from Emmy-winning Inspire drone technology and the Ronin cinematography ecosystem to today’s launch, which brings superior audio capture to all levels of video creators.”
Despite its small size, the Mic Mini incorporates two levels of noise cancellation technology, ensuring good performance when recording in loud venues. The transmitters also come with windscreens, which greatly minimize wind noise. If the audio input is too noisy, an automated audio limiting function limits the level to avoid clipping, which produces audio distortion. Creators may also easily modify the audio gain using the receiver’s dial, which cycles through five distinct levels.
In terms of the receiver, the Mic Mini includes two transmitters and one receiver, as well as a charging case that holds everything together, including mobile phone adapters and windscreens. The Mic Mini case lasts up to 48 hours and can provide an hour of use after only five minutes of charging. The receiver and transmitter batteries charge completely in around 100 and 90 minutes, respectively.
The receiver simultaneously links with two transmitters, each of which has omnidirectional audio recording.
The device also allows dual channel recording (mono and stereo), allowing designers to split sounds from both transmitters into separate tracks or combine it into a single track. While all of this is compatible with the software of choice, the Mic Mini also works with DJI’s Mimo App, which records a safety track — six decibels lower than the primary recording — as a failsafe for audio difficulties such as clipping and distortion. This is excellent for recording in unpredictable circumstances, such as live music and performances.
In terms of wireless performance, the Mic Mini can transmit audio up to 400 meters (1,312 feet) without impediments and contains anti-interference capabilities.
The new Mic Mini complements DJI’s ever-expanding OsmoAudio ecosystem. The DJI Mic Mini transmitter does not require a receiver to connect to the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3. It is also compatible with the DJI Fly app and the DJI Neo drone. The Mic Mini may also connect to cellphones over Bluetooth, so no receiver is required.
The DJI Mic Mini also works with cameras, PCs, and tablets. Connecting the new microphone to a camera is simple and requires the Camera Audio Cable (3.5mm TRS). When using this cable, the mic allows for synchronized power on/off. When utilized with a smartphone, the phone can charge the receiver using USB-C.
The new DJI Mic Mini is currently available in several configurations. The DJI Mic Mini with two transmitters, one receiver, and a charging case costs $169. This set includes a DJI Mic Mini Camera Audio Cable and Mic Mini Mobile Phone Adapter, as well as a charging cable, four windscreens, two clip magnets, and a carrying pouch. The DJI Mic Mini costs $89. It includes one transmitter and one receiver, two windscreens, multiple cords, and a charging dock. The DJI Mic Mini Transmitter is also available separately in black and white for $59, while the Mic Mini Charging Case costs $49.
