DJI Unveils the RS 4 Mini Gimbal

DJI has unveiled the RS 4 Mini, their latest gimbal for smartphones and cameras. This new gimbal promises professional-level stabilization in a compact and cost-effective form.

“The Ronin Series continues to push the imaging industry forward as we bring new innovations to our ecosystem and democratize technology to more applications. Specifically, the DJI RS 4 Mini continues to feature our Emmy Award-winning three-axis gimbal stabilization, offering seamlessly smooth and steady footage,” says Ferdinand Wolf, Product Experience Director at DJI. “In adding the DJI RS 4 Mini to our offering, we have rounded out this generation of stabilizers to cater to every level of creator, from professional filmmakers to independent commercial videographers and content creators.”

The content creator is the target audience for this RS 4 Mini. This gimbal is tiny and lightweight, weighing about two pounds (890 grams) and supporting weights of up to 4.4 pounds (two kilograms). The DJI RS 4 Mini is compatible with a wide range of mainstream mirrorless camera systems and smartphones.

The RS4 Mini, like earlier Ronin gimbals, has an automated access lock that allows for speedy setup, transition, and breakdown. This model’s new features include an intelligent tracking module, faster vertical changeover, and a revolutionary Teflon coating for better balancing.

Another upgrade over the DJI RS3 Mini is the RS4 Mini’s 30% faster charging speed and longer battery life. This brings the total operation time to nearly 13 hours. It also supports quick charging. After just 30 minutes of charging, the device will provide five hours of use.

Another significant difference is the RS4 Mini’s briefcase handle, which is 20% smaller and 28 grams lighter.

In terms of performance, the RS4 Mini incorporates tried-and-true capabilities from DJI’s prior flagship gimbals, as well as further advancements. The RS4 Mini includes a quick-release magnetic mount and second-generation auto-axis locking. These enable developers to instantly unlock the gimbal’s three-axis lock, resulting in speedier setup, filming, and breakdown.

Creators who film vertically will be glad to know that DJI has increased the gimbal’s steadiness. The updated 4th-Gen Stabilization combines the device’s strength with the tactile feel of camera movement, resulting in a better user experience. A third-generation native vertical switch, Teflon interlayers, and a fine-tuning knob for accurate millimeter-level balancing improve vertical filmmaking even further.

The DJI RS4 Mini has the new DJI RS intelligent tracking module as standard, which is one of its most intriguing features. This module activates ActiveTrack on any camera system or phone, with or without the DJI Mimo app. ActiveTrack can maintain a human subject in frame for up to ten meters. It can be activated by either pressing the trigger or using a visual command. The new Responsive mode enhances the device’s reaction speed, making it ideal for subjects that move quickly. Alternatively, the original Smooth mode allows for a more fluid gimbal reaction in slower recording scenarios.

The DJI RS 4 Mini is now available from authorized stores and DJI’s web store, with two purchasing options.

The DJI RS 4 Mini retails for $369 and comes with one gimbal, a quick-release plate, an RS 4 Mini tripod, an L-shaped multi-camera control cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a screw kit.

The DJI RS 4 Mini Combo costs $459 and includes an RS Intelligent Tracking Module and RS 4 Mini Briefcase Handle.
