Dreams of New York
Dreams of New York
Dreams of New York was designed and produced by Forth + Back, a multidisciplinary design studio based in Los Angeles, founded by Tanner Woodbury and Nikolos Killian. This project evolved out of their studio’s ongoing love affair with the East Coast and specifically New York. They began wandering the streets of New York through Google Earth back in 2017 and started to document the strange frozen images of life they found there. After countless digital forays into this weird wonderful landscape, they realized that there was something special happening that they wanted to share with the world.
Dreams of New York is a dream-like documentation of their digital ramblings through New York over the past three years which showcases a selection of images that they will continue to compile.
The project has culminated into a 200-page coffee table book, as well as a website that showcases a selection of images that they will continue to compile.
Dreams of New York is divided into five sections, each dedicated to one of the boroughs of the metropolis – Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island – and brings together normal shots and digital elaborations in which the subjects are isolated from the context. The juxtaposition between the two types of photos makes it even more interesting, surreal and poetic, and is seen especially in the editing done for the book (unfortunately out of print) that was made for the project, and in the Instagram profile created for the occasion.
