DZOFilm Unveils Arles T1.4 Cine Prime Lenses

DZOFilm has announced a new series of cinema prime lenses, the Arles T1.4, aimed at providing high-quality optics at an affordable price. These lenses are designed for full-frame and Vista Vision cameras, offering a combination of robust build quality and exceptional optical performance, making them an appealing choice for filmmakers and cinematographers.

The Arles series includes five prime lenses with focal lengths of 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm. Each lens boasts a bright T1.4 aperture, ideal for shooting in low-light conditions and achieving a shallow depth of field. The lenses are designed to produce a clean and precise image, with minimal chromatic aberration and focus breathing, ensuring high-quality footage even at wide-open apertures.

All five lenses in the Arles series share the same physical dimensions, featuring a 95mm front diameter suitable for matte boxes and an 86mm filter thread for screw-on filters. This uniformity allows for easy lens swaps on set, enhancing efficiency during shoots. The lenses are relatively compact and lightweight, ranging from 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) to 1.8 kg (3.96 lbs), making them suitable for handheld and gimbal setups.

Constructed with a sturdy metal housing, the Arles lenses are built to withstand the rigors of professional filmmaking. The geared focus and aperture rings ensure smooth and precise adjustments, while the consistent 4.76” length and swappable PL and EF mounts provide versatility across different camera systems. The lenses also feature 16 iris blades, producing a pleasing bokeh with smooth out-of-focus areas.

The Arles series is designed to deliver high-quality imagery with a clinical, technical approach. These lenses aim to provide consistent color reproduction and sharpness across the frame, making them suitable for high-resolution video production. The optical design ensures minimal distortions and aberrations, supporting the creation of professional-grade content.

The DZOFilm Arles lenses are expected to be competitively priced, with each lens available for approximately $2,149. The initial set of five lenses is slated for release soon, with plans to expand the lineup with additional focal lengths in the future.
