Edelkrone Introduces the Tripod X
One of the latest innovations from edelkrone is the Tripod X, a motorized tripod. The iconic three-legged design has been enhanced with three high-torque motors and a clever control system. This includes gyroscopic-based auto-leveling, pre-planned or remote-controlled movements, and synchronization with other Edelkrone products such motorized heads and jibs.
The world’s first completely motorized tripod boasts both performance and speed. The Tripod X can lift and lower even the heaviest setups. The Tripod X’s height is adjustable via a control pad, and even when deployed over rough terrain, it can level itself automatically thanks to built-in sophisticated sensors that constantly monitor and adapt.
“With Tripod X, you can wave goodbye to the various discomforts traditionally associated with tripod adjustments — from the nagging knee bends to the tedious toe-tip stretches. Experience a new era of ease and speed in camera setup, where your well-being is as prioritized as your shot,” promises Edelkrone.
Aside from simple adjustments, the motorized tripod design allows for smooth transitions between postures and dynamic motion time-lapse creation. Smooth and repeatable camera motions can be achieved by connecting the user’s camera to the Tripod X’s trigger port using a shutter trigger cable supplied separately.
The tripod can alter its height at a rate of up to 120 cm per minute, which is 47.2 inches per minute, or around 0.79 inches every second. The tripod is powered by a 12-volt 3Ah GBA type power tool battery (a BOSCH 12V battery and charger are included) and can make an average of 300 adjustments each charge.
The Tripod X is larger than other tripods. When considering its utility, a different parallel emerges: it’s more of a pedestal than a tripod. Under this classification, it is quite compact. The maximum height is 148 cm (58.27 inches), while the minimum is 34 cm (13.39 inches). Both are measured without a head attached. The maximum load capacity is 30kg (66.14 pounds), however to function completely motorized, we must reduce the weight to 20kg (44.09 pounds). The Tripod X is built of machined aluminum and weighs 9 kilograms (19.84 pounds).
While Tripod X is suitable for some outdoor use, Edelkrone warns against using it in sandy conditions such as beaches and deserts, and emphasizes that the tripod is not water-resistant and should not be used in the rain or on wet surfaces.
The Edelkrone Tripod X is currently available for $2,600, with a three-week shipping lead time. The Tripod X will also work with the Edelkrone app, albeit the remote control feature is not currently available.
