Fujifilm Announces the X-M5 Camera

Fujifilm has launched the X-M5, a mirrorless interchangeable lens compact camera that is the lightest in the X-Series and is aimed at new and emerging content creators who desire a small, compact camera that can shoot photographs and movies.

“X-M5 is a tool for the ‘camera curious’,” Victor Ha, vice president, Electronic Imaging and Optical Devices Divisions, at Fujifilm North America Corporation, says. “Its intuitive video functions, Film Simulation Mode Dial, and vari-angle touchscreen LCD comprise a great setup for anyone new to photography or video creation, or even for a seasoned creator who needs a lightweight kit to create on the move.”

The camera features Fujifilm’s 26.1-megapixel backside-lit X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, powered by the X-Processor 5 engine. According to Fujifilm, the X-M5 can take excellent pictures with less power. It also has Fujifilm’s subject-detection autofocus, which, according to the company, is based on artificial intelligence technology and can recognize and track animals, birds, automobiles, motorbikes, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects, and drones. The X-M5 incorporates Fujifilm’s most recent predictive algorithms to enable “high tracking performance for moving subjects and high precision autofocus in low-contrast environments.”

The camera has 20 Film Simulations in total, with eight of Fujifilm’s most popular options shown directly on the dial, as well as space for customers to add three more favorites.

On the video front, the X-M5 can record up to 6.2K at 30p, 4:2:2, and 10-bit open gate video onto an SD card, as well as a variety of additional resolutions and frame rates, including up to 60p at 4K and up to 240p at 1080p Full HD. It has a microphone, a headphone jack, a USB-C port, and a micro HDMI port.

The X-M5 doesn’t have in-body image stabilization. Still, Fujifilm did include digital image stabilization, which the company says can fix small camera shaking and the movement that happens while you’re walking while recording video.

The X-M5 weighs 355 grams and is 111.9mm wide, 66.6mm high, and 38mm deep, making it suitable for use as an everyday camera.

The Fujifilm X-M5 will be available in two colors: silver in November and black in April 2025. Both will sell for $799.95 as body-only alternatives, while a kit with the 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens will cost $899.95.
