Insta360 Unveils the Ace Pro 2 Action Camera

Insta360 officially announced the Ace Pro 2 action camera. The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 boasts 8K video capture, smarter artificial intelligence (AI), and a more durable build.

“Our goal was to refine and enhance the groundbreaking features of the original Insta360 Ace Pro to deliver an unparalleled experience,” says JK Liu, founder of Insta360. “We are confident these upgrades establish a new industry standard. Not only do they bring significant advances in AI, they empower creators to capture what was always impossible with other action cameras, opening the door to unprecedented creative potential.”

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is co-engineered with Leica and features a new Type 1/1.3 image sensor and a wider Leica Summarit lens with a 157-degree field of view. The lens is equivalent to a 13mm ultra wide-angle lens on a full-frame camera, with a maximum aperture of f/2.6.

According to Insta360, the improved sensor provides up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range and boasts the highest image quality of any action camera on the market.

The sensor is combined with a dual-chip design, making the Ace Pro 2 the first action camera with a specialized Pro Imaging Chip for image processing and noise reduction, while a secondary AI processor handles extra processing and overall camera performance.

The Ace Pro 2 can capture 8K/30p and 4K/60p Active HDR footage. The Ace Pro 2 also supports 4K/120p slow-motion footage, allowing users to film high-speed action.

PureVideo, a unique filming mode based on custom-trained AI neural networks, is also included with the camera. PureVideo promises considerable noise reduction, even in extremely low-light situations, as well as improved details for increased clarity.

Beyond the Summarit lens, Leica’s involvement with the Ace Pro 2 has an impact on the appearance of photographs and movies. The Ace Pro has Leica-engineered color profiles, which promise to add Leica’s trademark style to photographs.

Speaking of photographs, the Ace Pro 2 can capture JPG and DNG RAW images at up to 50 megapixels. Video files are MP4 formatted. 8K recording supports 16:9 and 2.35:1 aspect ratios, whereas 4K recording supports 4:3, 16:9, and 2.35:1. Active HDR and PureVideo support resolutions of up to 4K/60p. Slow Motion is accessible at up to 4K/120p resolutions, but only in 16:9 aspect ratio.
As an action camera, the Ace Pro 2 is designed to capture dynamic, quick motions. These scenarios are rarely stable. The camera incorporates 360-degree Horizon Lock, which applies automatically in-camera to maintain the horizon level. Furthermore, the camera includes a six-axis gyroscope.

Out of the box, waterproofing is now up to 12 meters. An optional Dive Case allows users to take the camera down to 60 meters. The camera can withstand temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for winter sports and harsh conditions.

The camera also features a new removable Lens Guard, which provides extra protection when needed. A new Wind Guard minimizes wind noise to a minimum when necessary. Along with physical protection, the camera includes updated audio algorithms to enable clearer recordings in a variety of settings. Both new guards attach to the camera magnetically, making them easy to remove or replace.

Another key design enhancement is an improved flip touchscreen. While slightly larger (2.5 versus 2.4 inches diagonally), the main difference is a 70% increase in pixel density and a 6% increase in screen brightness, making the display sharper and easier to operate.

The camera offers timecode, log recording, and manual control of shutter speed, ISO, and white balance.

The Ace Pro 2 lasts longer because to its updated 1,800mAh battery, which replaces the previous 1,650mAh. In addition to the larger battery, the new Endurance Mode provides 50% more runtime at 4K/30p than its predecessor. The camera can also charge to 80% in 18 minutes and 100% in 47 minutes.

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is now available for $399.99. The typical bundle consists of the camera, a Wind Guard, one battery, a typical Mount, a Mic Cap, and a USB-C cord. A Dual Battery Bundle adds a second battery for $419.99.
