Insta360 Introduces the Insta360 Flow AI Smartphone Stabilizer
Insta360 is best known for its small cameras, but it’s branching out with the Flow, a smartphone stabilizer that uses AI tracking to create a smooth video.
The Insta360 Flow is touted as the market’s most advanced AI-tracking smartphone stabilizer. It has auto-tracking 3-axis stabilization and a selfie stick built in. It is portable due to its 369-gram weight and folding dimensions of 3.1 by 6.4 by 1.4 inches. It can hold smartphones weighing between 4.6 and 10.6 ounces. It works with a variety of iOS devices as well as several Android-powered smartphones.
“Whether you’re running after your kid or traveling to the next stop on your bucket list, Flow’s mechanical stabilization guarantees shake-free shots in any scenario. It excels where a smartphone’s electronic stabilization often fails, such as filming in low light and when zooming in,” the company boasts.
The Flow’s stabilizing mechanism is coupled with Deep Track 3.0, Insta360’s artificial intelligence (AI) tracking technology. According to the company, the technology allows the gimbal to track people in real-time and rotate to follow their movement, allowing a photo to be framed automatically.
Insta360 can make three major claims with Deep Track 3.0. First and foremost, the company claims that its gimbal is more accurate than any other smartphone stabilizer now on the market. It uses what the company calls “Person Re-Identification” to continue tracking the same person throughout a recording, even if they’re blocked from view. It also has “All-Angle Tracking” to keep track of the subject as its shape changes.
“Flow’s stabilization and convenient handheld design also means creators aren’t limited to simply setting up the device in a stationary position to track themselves. Creators can take Flow wherever their inspiration strikes, and always be assured of getting perfectly stable shots.”
Second, Insta360 claims that the Flow is more adaptable than other choices due to Zoom Tracking, Slow Motion Tracking, and Live Mode – the latter for monitoring while video calling or live streaming in another app such as FaceTime, Instagram, or TikTok.
Finally, Insta360 claims the Flow is more trustworthy because it includes Tracking Recovery. As a subject moves out of frame, Flow can track it by zooming in or tracing its path. Flow also responds to gesture commands, allowing it to be mounted on a tripod and controlled even while the artist is in front of the camera.
The Flow comes with a telescoping selfie stick in the base, a tripod that extends from the handle, a built-in 2,900mAh battery bank that can charge a smartphone while recording, and a cold shoe for attaching optional attachments like a microphone.
The Insta360 Flow is similar to DJI devices in that it is loaded with “smart” functions. It offers numerous recording modes, including Panorama, which can take 360-degree photographs, and a 12-hour battery life.
The Insta360 Flow is now available for $160.
