Irix Unveils the 21mm T1.5 Cine Full-Frame Lens
Optics manufacturer Irix has announced a new 21mm T1.5 lens designed for full-frame camera systems. This full-frame lens offers the same level of quality and construction you’ve come to expect from the other lenses in the Irix lineup and Irix says that it’s built to offer the kind of detail and sharpness that something like 8K resolution video requires.
The Irix Cine 21mm T1.5 lens is constructed of 15 elements in 11 groups, including four extra-low dispersion elements, four high-refractive elements, and two aspherical elements. This design produces a 43.3mm image circle compatible with sensors from full-frame all the way down to 1/3” sensors. The lens features a T1.5 through T16 aperture range, uses an 11-blade aperture diaphragm, and has a minimum focusing distance of 30cm. It features the standard Mod 0.8 gears with a 180° focus throw and a 75° rotation on the aperture ring. It also uses the same metal construction as Irix’s other cine lenses, along with dust and weather sealing for extreme conditions. The engraved markings are filled with UV-reactive paint, helping you to see them more easily when shooting in darker conditions.
Because of the small weight, Irix cine lenses can be used on smaller cameras or handheld rigs and stabilizers. All the Irix Cine lenses have a lens support foot that provides stabilization when using lens support with follow focus systems. The support foot can be attached to the lower or upper part of the lens.
This new 21mm T1.5 lens is available for Arri PL, Canon EF, Canon RF, L, MFT, Nikon Z, and Sony E mount camera systems. Sizing slightly varies based on the lens mount, but Irix has designed it to be almost exactly the same size as its 30mm and 45mm T1.5 lenses in this lineup for easier swapping of lenses when you have a camera rigged up. Weight also varies slightly, but the lens weighs between 1054g for the MFT mount version and 1229g for the Nikon Z mount version.
The Irix 21mm T1.5 Cine lens will be available within the next few weeks and available today for preorder at selected dealers and Irix online Store.
The prices are set at $1195 USD ($1295 for the PL Mount version).
