Leica Announces the Leica Cine Play 1
Leica has launched the Leica Cine Play 1, a premium home cinema projector with a compact and lightweight design. It has a 4K resolution and can function both indoors and outdoors.
The Leica Cine Play 1 features a triple RGB laser system that Leica claims can project for over 25,000 hours. It should provide high-fidelity color rendition, which makes sense given that it supports many high-dynamic-range formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. The bulb behind the lens can also provide brightness up to 3,000 ASNI lumens, making it perfect for indoor and outdoor movies at any time of day.
The integrated Leica Summicron zoom lens in the projection unit is the Cine Play 1’s main feature. The high-quality glass can resolve 4K resolution over its zoom range, allowing users to project extraordinarily crisp and detailed cinema images onto displays ranging in size from 65 to 300 inches. Leica Image Optimization (LIO), the company’s unique image processing technology, is at the heart of the unit. According to Leica, it uses special image optimization algorithms to ensure exceptionally natural color rendering, finely nuanced color gradation, and an outstanding contrast ratio. The Cine Play 1 also has a game mode that keeps latency to under 12 milliseconds.
The Cine Play 1 supports Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, as well as many wired interfaces such as HDMI, USB, and LAN. The smart interface can also communicate with a variety of Smart Home devices via voice control.
Unlike other projection systems of this grade, the Cine Play 1 is extremely tiny. Its aluminum shell ensures durability and portability. Leica stresses its adaptability by including an optional Floor Stand attachment. The Floor Stand can let you set the projector in a number of positions, and the connection system between the Floor Stand and the Cine Play 1 allows for power pass-through, which means no unsightly power wire dangling.
The Leica Cine Play 1 is available for $3,795 via authorized dealers and the Leica website, with an optional Floor Stand costing $495.
