Lexar Introduces Armor 700 IP66-Rated Portable SSD

Lexar has introduced the Armor 700, a new portable SSD that offers not only fast transfer speeds but also weather protection with an IP66 classification.

At launch, the Armor 700 portable SSD is available in three storage capacities: 1TB and 2TB. Lexar aims to deliver a 4TB version later this year. According to the makers, this portable SSD is designed for speed as well as durability.

The Armor 700 supports up to 2,000 MB/s read and write rates when connected to compatible PCs over USB 3.2 Gen 2×2. As the name implies, Lexar made tremendous efforts to make the portable SSD extremely durable. The Armor 700’s IP66 classification indicates that it is fully protected and sealed against dust entry, as well as “against powerful water jets.” This grade is only one step below protection against temporary immersion in water.

Lexar also claims that the Armor 700 can withstand drops of up to three meters, albeit the manufacturer does not identify the hardness of the surface under test.

It also contains Lexar DataShield, a security solution that uses 256-bit AES encryption to keep files secure. The SSD also includes both a USB Type-C and USB Type-A cable.

The Lexar Armor 700 Portable SSD is now available in two capacities: 1TB for $150 and 2TB for $255.
