Lexar Announces Two New Portable SSD Drives
Lexar introduced two new portable SSDs today, each with a maximum capacity of 2TB and the promise of fast transfer speeds via USB 3.2 Gen 2. The Lexar ES3 and SL300 SSDs are compact, thin, and lightweight, with a large capacity and the promise of fast transfer speeds. Lexar claims that they both have built-in, double-layer graphite sheets that transmit heat and keep the external drives cool during long data transfers or high-intensity loads.
The ES3 and SL300, according to Lexar, can achieve read and write rates of up to 1,050 MB/s and 1,000 MB/s via a USB-C connection, respectively.
The ES3 and SL300 both feature a sleek and strong design that is durable and drop-resistant, giving protection against accidental falls of up to two meters.
The ES3 is drop-resistant, but has no other durability or protective features. The SL300, on the other hand, is IP54-rated, which means it can withstand water and dust in addition to drops.
Fortunately, the additional protection comes at no extra expense. Both the SL300 and ES3 are available in 2TB capacities for $180. The SL300 is also available with a 1TB capacity for $110. The SL300 will be available by “mid December,” while the ES3 will be available beginning today; both appear to be drastically discounted from Lexar’s MSRP.
